One of the things that is key to a finished basement is a dry interior. Many have sump pumps and drains to remove excess water from their basements. However the optimum situation is to posses a waterproofed basement.

Simply check the cellophane wrap after the next heavy rain. If the wrap shows any signs of moisture you have a basement waterproofing problem. This moisture indicates that the waterproof containment system in your basement is not functioning properly.

This can be for several reasons. The basement waterproofing you have can be composed of one or several of the following items.

You may have a waterproof paint applied to the outside of your concrete block wall. This waterproof paint should have been applied to your wall at the time that your house was built. Many times the color of the basement waterproof substance will be black. This waterproofing is more than likely a petroleum based product. Over this substance you may find a plastic sheeting.

The plastic sheeting is a second barrier designed to keep the water away from the cement block walls. This basement waterproofing method however has only about a ten year lifespan as the material will become brittle and damaged as roots and soil movement attack it. Outside of this the house may posses a french drainage system.

The waterproofing allowed by a french drainage system is absolutely critical if you have a seepage problem through your as built basement waterproofing system. The french drain is typically a corrugated plastic tube with one inch holes drilled around it. This pipe is buried 4-6 foot in the ground in front of your foundation wall. The waterproofing of your basement by this method is more of a diversion of water rather than penetration prevention.

So what are your options if you don't have one of these systems waterproofing your basement. The market has created several different systems available to you now. You can paint the interior wall of your structure with a waterproofing substance or install a post build french drain. Either of these options are available to you.

Can the Red Sox Win Another World Series in 2008?

Red Sox Nation is waiting in anticipation for the 2008 MLB season with the hopes of seeing back to back championships, and their prospects look great. No one knows what the season holds, but we can consider a few important things that give the Red Sox an excellent chance of going to the post season again at the very least. After all, the off season was busy, especially with the entire steroids controversy heating up after the Mitchell report was issued. The good news is that during the off-season, the Red Sox managed to keep most of the 2007's World Series winning team intact.

Their pitching rotation, and their infield and outfield are basically the same. Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield is back, and Doug Mirabelli, the Sox backup pitcher, finalized a one year deal to stick around. Big bats Ramirez and Ortiz will be back too.

One of the biggest things that stops any team from making it to the playoffs - whether its baseball, football, basketball, etc. - is the loss of players that helped hold the team together.

Missing team leaders can make a team lose their passion and emotion. You lose that; you will lose games. And that's what happened to the Red Sox after their 2004 World Series win; they lost a number of their important players like Pedro Martinez, Derek Lowe and Orlando Cabrera. Plus, when you replace players, the coaches and staff has to spend their time teaching the new players how their club specifically plays the game.

One reason why key Boston players Mike Lowell and Curt Schilling stuck around for less money and fewer contractual years is because they know that the team has an excellent chance of winning back-to-back World Series.

The outfielders will be same in '08 as well. This is the last year of Manny's $160 million contract, but he may stay past this year, especially if he has a good season.

The Red Sox outfield in 2008 will consist of superstar Manny Ramirez in left field, J.D. Drew in right field, and either Ellsbury or Crisp in center field. Both Ellsbury and Crisp are still on the roster, so that may create a healthy competition between the two for center field. A team needs more than three men for the outfield to make it to the playoffs anyway. Crisp underperformed last year, and Ellsbury became a playoff hero last year, but both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Consistency is big part of the game. The season is very long, and stamina and consistency is what gets teams to the playoffs.

Fortunately, Boston's pitching rotation looks like it is going to be very similar to last year's. Beckett, Schilling, Matsuzaka, Wakefield, and Lester or Bucholz is a powerhouse lineup.

The first half of the Red Sox season looks only mildly challenging. Based on the player's statistics and track records alone, the Red Sox look like they ought to win the '08 World Series if the line-up doesn't change, at least on paper. But once again, these guys have to play with heart and be consistent.

Injuries, illnesses, and bannings because of steroids notwithstanding, the Boston Red Sox have a good chance at going all the way once again. The team is strong and although some players have filed for arbitration in order to increase their salaries, there doesn't seem to be any indication that they will leave the team. The Yankees are still aimlessly drifting in an effort to finish filling their roster.

There are also negotiations still in the works regarding Johan Santana, a possible addition to the Red Sox's final roster. Once again, only time will tell. But the two time Cy Young Award winner would definitely make an impact on the team. The Boston Red Sox need to snatch him up before the Yankees or the Mets.

The Red Sox have an excellent chance of winning back to back championships, and it's theirs to lose. If the Red Sox can play with heart, consistency, stamina and stay reasonably healthy, I expect to see them winning in October again.

The golf strengthening and conditioning exercises I am going to give you on this page will improve your game and have you feeling fitter and stronger.

The game of golf is now played in a much more athletic way then is was in the past. Players like Tiger Woods and Greg Norman have brought athleticism and fitness to the game. The routines in the gym that modern players like Tiger and Greg use have proven to be just as important as the time they spend practising on course.

Along with some gym exercises I am also going to give you some great stretching exercises that you can do at home or the office.

 I will start with the all time best stretching exercises for Golfers.

 Stretch 1: The Oblique Twist

STEP 1: Sit down and slowly lower your back on to the ground until you are as fat as a pancake. Put your hands out directly from your shoulders to form a t shape, then lower them a little so your hands are pointing about 1 foot wide of your feet.

STEP 2: Raise your legs up whilst keeping your torso completely still, and then lower both legs to one side of your body. The key thing is to keep your upper body quite straight and rigid, as this will strengthen your obliques.

STEP 3: Simply lift your legs back up to the centre position and then lower down again to the other side.

By holding, your legs in the centre position for 30 or 40 seconds each time you will further strengthen your core.

Think about this exercise and then think about the motion your body goes through when you are hitting a shot. The twist with each golf shot put pressure on the obliques so strengthening them up has to make sense.

Stretch 2: The Oblique push down

STEP 1: Lie flat on your back and then bend your knees in towards your buttocks. Lock your fingers and place them behind your neck. like you are about to do a sit up.

STEP 2: Twist your left shoulder towards your left knee until the middle part of your back begins to lift off the floor. Twist until you feel a strain on your abdominals and hold for about 20 seconds.

STEP 3: Return back to your starting position and repeat on the other side.

Dumbbell Exercises

 Exercise one: Wrist Grip Power

STEP 1: Grab a dumbbell with each hand that is light and grip tightly, then hold each weight down against your sides. Lift both weights upward until your elbows are at 90 degrees and hold for 5 seconds.

STEP 2: Whilst tensing your arms and forearms simply twist your wrists at the same time in and then out.

As simple as this exercise sounds it will strengthen you wrists quickly and give you more control when chipping and driving.

 Exercise Two: Stance Power

This exercise will strengthen your quads and your hamstrings, which both play a role when you drive a golf ball.

STEP 1: Stand with your feet shoulder length apart, and hold the same light pair of dumbbells. Lower the dumbbells down against your sides about 10 centimetres wide from your thighs.

STEP 2: Bend down at your knees and stabilize, then spring up into the air. Land down in the knees bent position when you come down and repeat for 20 repetitions.

Over the next few days, I will detail a number of additional golfing stretches and weight routines. The main muscle groups that we will cover in the routines are the hamstrings,glutes,quadriceps,trapezius,triceps,abdominals and the rectus.

Using the exercises described above with the additional ones that I would publish shortly about three times a week will improve your power and endurance quickly.

Need info about golf shoes and gloves?

Do you need to buy "golf shoes" to play golf? Could you play golf with any other type of shoe? I've heard that the glove is a must have. Is this true?

neither are necessary, really.

Most courses don't allow metal spikes anymore, and as long as your regular shoes have good traction, you'll be OK (as long as the ground isn't too wet). Baseball/football shoes with plastic cleats are too big, and would damage the greens.

Gloves can be OK, but there are a few PGA Tour pros that don't even use them. Fred Couples is the biggest name that comes to mind... no glove, still drives it around 300 yards.

Tommy Gainey is nicknamed "two gloves" cause he wears gloves on each hand- like a baseball thing, I assume.

My friend, a +1 handicap, uses a glove on full shots but takes it off when he gets into pitching and chipping range. So really, to each their own- whatever makes you comfortable. You can have a glove and still have a poor grip, you can have no glove and have a proper grip. No biggie.

If you want to be a "serious" (term loosely used- I'm still figuring out what that means) golfer, save your money and buy some shoes first. It isn't for show, but the stability in your swing is a bonus. But again, it isn't vital to have either accessory.
